Sandia Peak offers lessons for ages 3+. We will make accommodations with our private lessons for younger children who are potty trained. Please reach out to info@sandia.ski to assist with booking for children under 3 years of age.

We highly recommend arriving at least an hour before the start time. This allows time for you to grab your lift ticket, rentals, and run to the restroom if needed.

This depends on the lesson you are choosing. Our Never Ever Package includes a ticket and the option to add-on rentals but our private lesson does not include a lift ticket or rentals.

• Allow enough time prior to check-in to get fitted for gear if you have rentals. Have your child use the restroom, and be dressed ready to ski/ride.

• Lessons start on time, so please be ready at the check in area no later than 15 minutes before your lesson start time. If you miss your scheduled lesson, you may be asked to come back at a later time based on availability. Availability is not guaranteed.

• Groups will be formed based on ability and age.

• Sick and contagious children will not be admitted.

• All lessons are subject to availability. If the day or time you would like to reserve is unavailable, check availability for another day or time.

Generally speaking, there are no more than 7 students in a lesson. Private lessons can be one-on-one or include two additional guests for an additional fee.

If you are using our rental equipment, you should plan to arrive at 9:00AM for a 10:00AM lesson. If you are bringing your own equipment, 30 minutes before lesson time is sufficient.

Children ages 5 - 7 in our Never Ever Ski Package have the option to add a lunch for an additional $15. Other lessons do not include a lunch.

There is no requirement to wear a helmet. It is however a really good idea. You will notice all of the skiing and snowboarding professionals at Sandia Peak wear helmets.

At the beginner level, poles are handy for moving around the flat areas but in many cases are more of a hinderance than an aid. We usually start adults with poles and children without poles. If you are having trouble getting the hang of it your instructor might ask you to try without them. Pole use will be introduced at the Mountain level. No, you don’t get poles with a snowboard.

One on each foot. Should I change the question? A calf length light to medium weight pair of socks is plenty. Anything more will cause you problems. Too many socks can be painful and may restrict blood flow to your feet making them colder than you might like.

True but still less weird than ski boots. Snowboard boots should have a performance fit. Unlike everyday shoes it is ok for your toes to touch the end of the boot while wearing a single pair of socks. However, you do not want your toes curled or compressed by the boot. Once the inner liner and the boot laces/boa are tightened your heel should keep contact with the bottom of the boot even when flexing your knees over your toes.

This is hardly surprising, since they weigh about nine pounds and force you to stand in a position that is difficult in which to walk but really helpful when you are skiing. When trying the boots on, your toes should barely touch the front of the boot when standing up and should pull back slightly when you bend your knees. The boots should fit snuggly around your foot. If the boots are loose (more comfortable) it will be harder for you to control the ski. Don’t tuck your pants or if you have ski pants, the powder cuff into the boot, it will hurt as soon as you start to move around. ONE pair of socks only.
